Donation Helps To Keep the Band Marching On
The **Weedman Family Charitable Giving Fund** awards a $15,000 grant to the Ohio County Band Boosters, supporting new instruments, a community matching campaign, and expanded access for students who could not otherwise afford to participate.
OHIO COUNTY, KY – The Weedman Family Charitable Giving Fund is proud to announce a $15,000 grant awarded to the Ohio County Band Boosters. This investment arrives at a pivotal moment for the program, which is currently entering a new era under the leadership of newly appointed Head Band Director, Dylan Harrison.
For decades, the Ohio County Marching Band has served as a cornerstone of the high school experience, building a storied tradition of competitive excellence across the state.
How the Grant Is Structured
The grant is structured to maximize impact across three critical areas:
- $5,000 in direct support for the program
- $5,000 to launch a community donation-matching campaign, encouraging local supporters to double the impact of their own donations
- $5,000 designated specifically to provide instruments for students who otherwise could not afford to participate
The Ohio County program, recognized for its commitment to both musical performance and athletic precision, views this grant as a vital catalyst for its upcoming season.
Voices from the Community
"We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of the Weedman Family Charitable Giving Fund," said Dylan Harrison, Head Band Director. "As I step into this role, my primary focus is to ensure that our students have the resources they need to succeed, not just on the competition field, but in their personal growth. This grant doesn't just provide instruments; it removes barriers. By helping us provide equipment for students who might otherwise be unable to afford it, the Weedman Fund is helping us cultivate a more inclusive, vibrant, and capable ensemble."
"Marching band is, perhaps, the most intense form of collaborative art a young person can experience," said Mischelle 'Schelly' Weedman-Davis, founder of the Weedman Family Charitable Giving Fund. "As someone who was a proud member of the marching band in high school, I know firsthand how much this experience shapes your character, your discipline, and your sense of community. I am thrilled to help ensure that more students in Ohio County have the opportunity to be part of that legacy."
"This band program not only shaped me as a person, but it also inspired me to be an educator," said Scott Ford, former OCHS marching band staff member and former band director at Lone Oak High School. "After 31 years of teaching, so many of my skills that I still use today started in that band room. This band program is an absolute must for the youth of today. Teamwork, dedication and commitment are lessons we all need in life. I am so excited to see what the future holds under the leadership of Mr. Harrison!"
Community Matching Campaign
The Band Boosters will utilize the $5,000 matching grant to engage the broader Ohio County community, encouraging local supporters to double the impact of their own donations. Details regarding the upcoming matching campaign will be released by the Band Boosters in the coming weeks.
