A Grant That Goes Beyond a Truck
"The Ohio County Food Pantry is an essential lifeline, and we are honored to support its mission," said Mischelle 'Schelly' Weedman-Davis, founder of the fund. "Providing a refrigerated vehicle isn't just about a truck; it's about ensuring that fresh, healthy food reaches those who need it most, regardless of where they are in our county. Our family is committed to helping build a stronger, more resilient community, and this is a tangible step toward that goal."
For the Ohio County Food Pantry, this donation arrives at a time of growing demand for their services.
"We are beyond grateful for this grant from the Weedman Family Charitable Giving Fund. Having them come along side us as we work to create a stronger community is invaluable. Operating a food pantry requires constant logistical maneuvering," said Rebecca Baird, Director of the Ohio County Food Pantry. "A dedicated refrigerated truck transforms our ability to secure and safely transport perishable goods that would otherwise be out of reach. This gift allows us to serve more families with dignity and consistency."
Greg Hillard, pastor of the Living Faith Baptist Church and Pantry Board Chairman, noted the broader community impact of the grant: "We receive food donations from a variety of sources both within and outside our county — this vehicle will allow us to be better stewards of those resources and increase their shelf life. We are very thankful for this support for the Ohio County Food Pantry and its efforts; this is truly a total Ohio County effort."
Reflecting on the importance of the family's legacy in Ohio County, Chuck Weedman added, "Our family has always believed in the power of local action. We hope this grant encourages others to see the needs in our own backyard and consider how they can contribute to the long-term health and stability of our community."
